I presented at two conferences (BrainStorm 2022 and the Google Summit) this week on various technology things along with Dan Stitzel, Molly Klodor (now at Chagrin Falls), and a host of other outstanding educators. It was great to see some folks in person and learn a few things.
I’ve been looking for a way to improve (when am I not?) our signage in buildings – the big TV displays that show lunch menus, school information, and so on. We have it working, but there were some issues – manually having to flip it into full screen each day.
Irritating and a waste of time.
A few years ago, I noodled with another display solution, Google Chrome Sign Builder, but couldn’t get it to work, so I left it alone. I wrote it off as not working right, or something was wrong with it.
On Wednesday, I had dinner with a group of people, including Eric and Eric, who I look to for more complicated solutions and advice. Both said to give Sign Builder another try.
“Oh yeah, that’s the one. So easy. Be sure to export the schedule file to a .json policy first. Run the device in an OU that auto-launches the app. It should be smooth sailing after that. And hit us up tomorrow, and we’ll check it out together!”
A push.
A nudge in the right direction.
A solid “You can do it! We trust in you!”
And that was all I needed. I had it configured correctly (this time*) in minutes and got a display working back at the Annex with no problem (while still at the conference).
Problem solved.
Sometimes, all it takes is a push from someone you trust to get going (either for the first time or trying something again…). It’s valuable. There’s a lot of trust in that action. You have to be willing to be pushed, too, you know. ;-)
So here’s to new adventures. Who are you pushing towards excellence today?
*Years back, I didn’t see the connection between exported policy and auto-launching the app on the display device itself. It was entirely my user error and perhaps some shaky technical documentation. Either way, here we go!
