Did my heart stop beating?

Probably not.

I’ve been using a Garmin Instinct* for a while as a new watch (replacing my Casio Pathfinder after 10+ years), and it tracks my heart beat continuously.

So it came as a bit of surprise when I was reviewing my wrist data (my doctor says I should…) to find a gap in my pulse. What happened?

I recharged, that’s what!

Actually, I had an hour and a half massage from a local therapeutic place that’s been helping me reset, refocus, and relax. My upper back and neck’s been torture for years, and I finally decided I’d had enough. Massage, along with chiropractic, finally has me back on track, and I feel much better.

Are you taking care of yourself? Where’s your data to prove it?

I just spent two days with my team at an away-out-of-town leadership session, where both speakers reminded us to “take care of ourselves” or else…

How else can we lead? How else can we stay true to ourselves? How else can we enable others to perform?

If you’re not in peak condition (mentally AND physically) your effectiveness as a leader is dramatically reduced, and your organization suffers.

So. Take some time to treat yourself. After all, it’s for the benefit of all. Next, I’ll work on meditation. Apparently, 2 minutes of focus is all it takes before hitting the keyboard. Wanna try it with me?

*ProTip: Don’t enable notifications on your smartwatch… battery will last a lot longer, and you’ll get more done without the constant buzzing. I get 28 days from the Garmin in between charges…
