You will be required, as a student in my U.S. History class, to complete a set of journal entries on various topics. The topics / prompts will all be posted here. Please make sure you follow the instructions completely in order to earn credit for your work.

Instructions:
  • Format all journal entries using a standard font (Times New Roman), size 12, double spaced, one-inch margins all around, and add your name and class information in the top left-hand corner, and staple it together in the top left-hand corner.
  • All journal entries are due on the date listed. No late entries will be accepted without prior approval.
  • All journal entries should be about 300-500 words in length. Use word count to make sure. This is about 2 pages using the above setup.
  • Make sure to address ALL questions / issues in your entry.
  • All journals must be typed. No exceptions. Use the IMC or the local library if you do not have a computer at home.

NOTE: As of 10/2/2008, you will now be able to improve your grade on the journals by revising them after initial grading. If you have scored less than what you had expected, you will be able to revise the journal, edit mistakes as well as grammar and spelling issues, in order to submit the journal a second time, for a second chance. That way, you will be able to succeed, as well as improve your writing.

Here's the procedure:

1. Submit your journal for grading as usual.
2. When you get it back, and you're happy with the grade - file it away - you're done.
3. If you would like to improve your score... go to step 4!
4. You will have one (1) week to redo / improve your journal.
5. Submit your revised journal, with your old (graded) journal stapled to it. You must submit both as a packet, along with a cover sheet - you can find this in class.
6. Your new and revised journal will be graded, and your score adjusted in ProgressBook accordingly.

NOTE: Grading / scoring of the journals, going forward, will be more strict. That being said, this is a learning process, and by having a second chance to improve your writing, you will be afforded the opportunity to really take charge of your leanring.

Historical Narrative: Create a fiction narrative that takes place in the late 1800s, early 1900s. Your protagonist should be a child laborer, and your antagonist the boss you work for. Make sure to develop your story well, including many and detailed examples of historical accuracy, as well as a flowing narrative. Your story should have an introduction/beginning, and middle (plot development), and an end/conclusion. Make sure to include terms used in the reading such as 'progressive', 'reform', 'suffrage', etc.

Journal # 4 | Due Date: Friday, November 21st, 2008 (in-class, or via email to historyknight@gmail.com)

Historical What If?: What would the world be like today if either of these scenarios would have taken place (choose one only, to write you journal about):

1. Archduke Ferdinand is never assassinated.
2. Germany is able to execute the Schlieffen very quickly, with no stalemate, and invade France.

Make sure to fully explain your reasoning. It's okay to create some fictional events for this assignment, as it is highly hypothetical. Make sure to adhere to all past requirements in regards to length, spelling & grammar, etc. All journals should be typed, unless prior approval has been granted.
