Getting Started

  1. To access the website, click on this address: https://www.studyisland.com/
  2. Login using the following user name: firstinitiallastname.nhs, and use the password “knights”
    • Example:  ajohansson.nhs
  3. On the Study Island page, click on Social Studies (in the left hand column), then OGT Prep.
  4. Begin by clicking on the Pretest – Social Studies, and set the # of questions to 15.
  5. Once you’re done with the Pretest, you now have the ability to any of the other sections in Social Studies.

FYI

  • The different sections don’t have to be done in order.
  • It is highly recommended that you read the lesson before taking the test for each section.
  • It is required that you select and complete at least 15 questions for each section. You may do more if you like.
  • It is highly recommended that you click on the explanation after each question, especially the ones you get wrong, to explore the logic behind each correct answer.

Scoring

To obtain the points for this assignment (157.5 points in ProgressBook), you should make sure to meet the following requirements:

  1. Complete 15 questions from each section – 21 sections x 15 questions = 315 questions
    • Each question (0 – 315) is worth 1/2 point (0.5).
  2. Score Proficient (P) on each section according to its set passage percentage (65% – 70%).
  3. Pre AND Post tests must be completed with 70% passing rate.
  4. You will only get credit for questions in sections that have been passed, and have a minimum of 15 questions answered.
  5. Complete the above on or before March 11th, 2011.

Study Island Incentive

If you complete more than 500 questions, and your cumulative passing percentage is greater than 70%, you may earn an extra 20 points extra credit. You must meet all of the above standards, regardless, in order to earn the extra credit.

Final Exam Incentive

When you take the real OGT in March, and you score in the following categories, you will earn Q4 bonus points:

  • Proficient = +1% on Q4
  • Accelerated = +2% on Q4
  • Advanced = +3% on Q4

And, if you score Accelerated or Advanced, and you have 80% or higher on your 2nd Semester grades in US HISTORY, you will be exempt from the final exam.
