I am available for the following workshops, presentations, and consultancy services. All sessions are designed with the educator in mind, and are perfect for in-service training, school or district wide events. Please email me, or contact on this website for more information.
Tools for Teaching Series
The Tools for Teaching Series include quick, concise, and powerful presentations that are limited to 45 minutes. They are great for in-service openers, staff meetings, or can be developed and customized into full-blown 1/2 day or full day workshops.
Tools for Teaching Series: Teaching with Twitter*
You’re not teaching alone: Twitter is an amazing technology tool that can connect you with the global teaching community to build a Professional Learning Network, giving you access to immediate help from other like-minded educators. We’ll also discuss how to use Twitter to connect to your students with homework reminders, blog feeds, journaling, promoting projects, and more.
Tools for Teaching Series: Effective Use of Google Forms*
Google Forms is a powerful tool for data driven instruction. We will discuss how to use Google Forms functionality for easy collection of student data (test scores, surveys, journaling, etc.), as an idea tracker, to create a quick visual display of real data, to introduce topics, and more.
Tools for Teaching Series: The Power of WordPress*
Best practice for today’s teachers is to have a web presence that is always accessible to students, but it can be a daunting prospect to set up your own website. WordPress is an easy tool to create a flexible and dynamic digital repository. We’ll discuss using WordPress to blog; communicate with parents and students; post resources, projects, homework, and copies of handouts; and more.
Tools for Teaching Series: Effective Use of Technology in the Classroom*
This presentation approaches the use of technology in the classroom from the novice’s perspective, and is meant as a non-threatening introduction to basic topics. The presentation runs about 1 hour with time for questions, and no experience is necessary. All materials & handouts are provided.
Tools for Teaching Series: Blogging for Educators I
This is the first step towards blogging, regardless if your blogging with students, using the blog as an online assignment calendar, doing community communication, or showing off your work. Basics of blogging are discussed in an easy-to-follow seminar, and areas of concern are addressed. A few practical solutions and tips are offered, and participants will leave with a whole host of new ways to use blogs.
*Part of the Kent State Workshop (see below)
Extended / 1/2 Day / Full-Day Workshops
Practical Applications of Technology
The topics from ‘Effective Use’ are covered in more detail, and we go further, with concrete and practical uses of technology. Participants are allotted time to use / practice with each technology area, and the sessions are much more hands-on than EUTC. Each area is handled as a separate workshop, and the sessions are usually tailored to the need of the participants. This course can be custom designed, with either all, or just one of the units, depending on the need.
Blogging for Educators II
This is the practical side of blogging. Participants will be led through the steps to setup and manage a blog, shown various active uses of blogs in education, and will be able to setup their own blog for use with their students, parents, and community. Participants will engage in thoughtful discussion on what to blog on, and what not to use blogs for. A thorough investigation into safety of blogging, and how to have students actively participate is included as well.
The Wiki Workshop
This is the first step towards using wiki in your classroom. Basics of wikis are discussed in an easy-to-follow seminar, with insights and tips, the many uses of wikis, and practical things to think about. The second half of the workshop will focus on the practical application of wikis, and the participants will get a chance to put their new knowledge to the test by creating a wiki, or further explore the possibilities of a wiki in the classroom.
Google Docs Workshop
Google Docs allows users to create, edit, and share documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and forms using a simple, and free, web interface environment. If you can send an email, you can use Google Docs! This session will introduce all of the Google Docs tools at a basic level, and show how to setup a simple survey, quickly informing instruction. Attendees can expect a hands-on approach, focused on the practical application of technology, highlighted by actual examples from today’s classroom.
